
Mechanical Design Engineer

Position Description
Omaha Track Welding is currently seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Design engineer to work in the Flash-Butt Welding Department located in Kansas City, Missouri. The Design Engineer will assist in the design of Flash-Butt Welding equipment and provide technical support for the sales, purchasing, and manufacturing departments. This position will be responsible for reinforcing a strong culture of compliance with company policies, manufacturing, and safety procedures, and any applicable outside certification standards.
Major Areas of Responsibility
- Coordinate with management to ensure a thorough understanding of engineering project scope, timelines, priorities, resources, and budget requirements.
- Perform engineering analyses, calculations, and develop innovative designs using Auto Desk 2D and Inventor 3D software.
- Perform stress calculations and finite element analysis.
- Ensure technical accuracy of procedures, drawings, installation instructions, product descriptions, and other documentation.
- Support manufacturing and commissioning teams with engineering solutions.
- Communicate technical information with customers and vendors.
- Actively assist in the management of engineering documents and intellectual property.
- Travel to client sites for system installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and training as required
- Make safety a priority consideration with all actions taken.
Minimum Qualifications
- Mechanical Engineering Degree or equivalent experience is required
- 5 or more years’ experience in Mechanical Design preferred
- Experience with Flash-Butt Welding equipment or other Heavy Equipment is preferred
- A solid background and experience in heavy equipment, railroad industry, technical expertise, strong problem-solving skills, and effective communication skills are highly valued and are preferred
- Must have the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of management & subject matter experts
